How to Share a Printer on a Domain PC With a Workgroup on PCs
Click 'Start' and then 'Printers and Devices.'
Click the printer that you want to share with computers in the workgroup. After the window opens, click the 'Customize Your Printer' link.
Click the 'Sharing' tab in the 'Properties' window. Click and enable the 'Share this Printer' option. Enter a descriptive share name for the printer in the 'Share Name' field. Click the 'Apply' button and then 'OK.'
Close the 'Printers and Devices' window.
Click 'Start' and then right-click on 'Computer.' Click the 'Properties' link on the pop-up menu.
Click the 'Remote Settings' link in the left side of the 'System' window. Click the 'Computer Name' tab.
Record the name of the network domain next to the 'Domain' label. The domain name is similar to 'www.somedomain.com.'
Go to the first workgroup computer. Click 'Start' and then right-click 'Computer.' Click the 'Remote Settings' link in the new window.
Click the 'Computer Name' tab on the pop-up window. Click the 'Change' button.
Enter the domain name ('www.somedomain.com') you recorded from the domain computer in the 'Workgroup' field. Click the 'OK' button. Restart the computer when prompted to do so. Allow the PC to boot into Windows.
Click 'Start' and then 'Printers and Devices.' Click the 'Add Printer' button at the top of the new window.
Click the 'Add a Network, Wireless or Bluetooth Printer' link in the pop-up window. Wait for Windows to detect printers on the local network. Click and highlight the printer connected to the domain computer. Click the 'Next' button.
Type a descriptive name in the 'Printer Name' field or leave the default name in place. Click the 'Next' button.
Click and enable the 'Set as the Default Printer' option. Click the 'Finish' button.
Change the network name on other network computers. Install the network printers on workgroup PCs as needed.
