How to Install a Brother MFC Driver (9 Steps)
Exit any currently-active applications and shut down your computer.
Examine your Brother MFC printer. If you are installing the driver software on a computer running Windows, disconnect the power cord and interface cable. If you are installing onto a computer running OS X, leave the power cord and interface cable in place.
Turn on your computer and log into your operating system.
Examine the printer's USB and power ports (on some models, the USB port is located under the scanner cover); unplug the USB cable and AC adapter, if connected. Remove any flash drives or memory cards, if installed.
Open your computer's optical drive and insert the installation disc. Close the optical drive and wait for the installer application to launch (if the installer does not launch, browse the contents of the installation disc and open the program labeled 'Start.exe').
Click on the button labeled 'Install MFL Pro-Suite.' Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach the screen labeled 'Connection Type.' Select the option labeled 'Local Connection (USB)' and click on the button labeled 'Next.' When prompted, connect one end of the USB cable to the printer's USB port, then connect the remaining end to any available port on your computer. Plug in the printer's AC adapter. Follow the on-screen instructions until installation is complete.
Confirm that the printer's AC adapter is connected and the USB cable is connected to both the computer and printer. Remove any flash drives or memory cards, if installed.
Open your computer's optical drive, and insert the installation disc. Examine the contents of the 'Finder' window labeled 'MFL Pro-Suite.' Locate and launch the application labeled 'Start Here OSX.'
Select the option labeled 'Local Connection,' and click on the button labeled 'Next.' Follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted to choose a device to install, select the option that corresponds to your model of printer, and click the button labeled 'OK.' Follow the on-screen instructions until installation is complete.
