How to Set Up a Print Server
Turn on all the computers you want to have access to the print server. Insert the print server driver into the CD-ROM drive of the main computer. This computer connects to your router using a wire. Follow on-screen instructions and install the driver to your computer. If the driver fails to begin installation automatically, click 'My Computer' and double-click the letter corresponding to the CD drive. Remove the driver from your CD drive after installation.
Assign static address. Open your browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera or any other browser) and open your router administrative interface by entering '192.168.1.1' into your browser. Click 'Enter.' If this doesn't work for you, consult your router's documentation for the proper address. Enter your username and password if this had been previously set up to require authentication. Click 'Enter' or click 'Ok.'
Click TCP/IP and select Fixed Address. Under IP Address, select an address outside the normal range like 192.168.1.128. Leave Gateway Address and Subnet Mask as they are. Note the address you added. You will need it later. Click Ok or Apply.
Select 'Automatic Configuration--DHCP' from the dropdown menu. Select 'Enable' under 'DHCP Server.' Under 'Static DNS 1,' enter '192.168.1.128,' the same numbers you entered earlier. Close your router's administrative interface.

How to Use a HP Photosmart Printer
Unpack your printer and assemble your printer supplies. You need ink cartridges labeled HP 02which are already included in the box--and you should also invest in high-quality photo paper.
Plug in the printer. After five minutes, turn it on. Select the language from the printer screen and confirm your selection. Select also the proper country code and once again confirm your selection.
Connect the printer to your computer with the USB cable.
Install the ink cartridges by opening the printer top cover and simply sliding them into the labeled places. Close the top cover. Insert the photo paper into the paper tray.
Turn on your computer and insert the CD that was also in the printer box. Click on the install icon and the installation of the printer software will begin. Follow the prompts until the computer signals that the installation process is completed.
Log on to the Internet and double check on the HP website that you have the latest driver installed for your Photosmart printer. Assuming that you are good to go, it is now time to print some photos.
Remove your digital cameras memory card and insert it into the printers memory card slot. You will hear a little click when it is all the way in, and the memory card light will begin flashing.
Confirm that you want to save the photos that are on the memory card. The printer has its own memory, and you can save them directly to the printer hard drive.
Choose the view option and then the print option. You are now prompted to select the photo size. It is up to you to select the regular 4-x-6 or any other size. Depending on your preference and the photo paper you purchased, you pick the paper size next.
Decide on the photos you want to print out. With the help of the arrow keys, you may bypass any pictures that you do not wish to print at this time and only highlight the photos you wish to print now.
Select the print option when you have finished the process and identified all the photos you are going to print.

How to Pack a Printer for Shipping
Get proper packing supplies from a mailbox rental store, the post office or a large office supply store. Measure the printer width and length and get a box that is slightly larger than those dimensions.
Take any ancillary pieces off the printer, such as detachable cords. Wrap them up in a plastic bag or the original packing material and fit them into the box.
Cushion the printer with bubble wrap, packing peanuts or foam wedges until it is secured in the box. Leave a tiny bit of 'breathing room.'
Tear off or obscure any prior shipping labels if using an original box. Make sure there is no wear and tear on the box from previous shipments.
Secure the box with strong packing tape or paper tape. Double tape the top and bottom of the package for extra security.
Address the box clearly with a new shipping label. Mark it 'Fragile.'
How to Know If a Printer Is Compatible With a Laptop
Check to see what platform the printer supports. More than likely it is either Windows or Mac (some do support both). You need a printer that supports your particular computer platform. This information is printed on the side of the printer's box, or you can open your Internet browser, navigate to the printer's manufacturing site and select the particular printer in question to see its specifications.
Find out what operating system the printer supports. Newer printers (such as those that are compatible with Windows 7) typically support older versions of the operating system also.
Check the cable connection. Most new printers can connect to your computer through either a USB or wireless connection. If you are using an older computer with only serial connection ports you must purchase a USB-to-serial adapter in order to use the computer with the laptop. Similarly, you may need an adapter to connect an older printer with a newer computer.
Look up the printer on its manufacturer's site and search for available drivers. If you are using a newer laptop with an older printer you'll need the upgraded driver. If no drivers are available for the new operating system, then your laptop is not compatible with the printer.
Alternatively, check your computer for available printer drivers. For example, if you'd like to use a non-USB or wireless printer with a Windows 7 computer, search for the driver by navigating through 'Control Panel > View Devices and Printers > Add a Printer > Add a Local Printer.' Choose a printer port and click 'Next.' In the 'Install a Printer Driver' screen, select the printer's manufacturer in the left-side menu, then search for the specific printer in the right-side menu.
