How to Make a Copy on a Multi

Start up your multi-function printer and computer. Wait until it has powered on completely before beginning.
Open the printer's lid and place your item on the copying surface with the side you want copied face-down on the glass. Double-check the alignment.
Shut the printer's lid. For large items, such as books, you may want to remove the printer lid rather than forcing it closed.
Choose the kind of copy you want: black-and-white or color. You also may have to select the kind of paper that you are copying.
Size the copy to the page if desired. Some multi-function printers allow you to expand or shrink the original to fit different sizes of paper.
Enter the number of copies you want. You may do this on the multi-function printer or in the print setup of your computer. Make sure the paper tray has enough paper to finish your copying job.
Press the 'Start' button. Other names for this might be the 'Copy' or 'Print' button.
Remove the pages as they are delivered from the printer's feeding mechanism. Do not tug on the copies as they come out. Let them fall into your hands.

How to Troubleshoot an HP Photosmart C3100

Ensure that your HP Photosmart C3100 printer is properly connected to an electrical outlet if it does not power on. Press down on the power cord to ensure that it is fully plugged into the outlet. Press the power button on the printer again and it will begin to start up.
Check your Photosmart C3100's connection to your computer if the Power button on the front of the printer flashes repeatedly after you press the 'Start Scan' button. The flashing light means that the printer is unable to communicate with your computer. Remove the USB cord that connects the two devices from the port on your computer and reinsert it.
Reset your HP Photosmart C3100 printer if it does not respond to the 'Print' command. Unplug the printer's power cord and wait at least ten seconds with the power cord removed. Reinsert the power cord and power the printer back on. Print a document of your choosing to verify that the printer is functioning properly.

How to Fix a USB Printer Device That's Not Recognized

Print a test page directly to the printer to make sure the printer is working properly. On most printers holding the power button for 5-10 seconds will start the test page printing.
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer. Turn the printer off and then reseat the cable on both ends. To reseat the cable, pull the square end of the USB cable out of the back of the printer, pull the flat end of the USB cable out of the USB slot on the computer, then firmly reattach both ends of the cable.
Power the printer back on and send a test page from your computer. To send the test page click on the 'Start' button and choose 'Control Panel' from the menu. Double-click the 'Printers and Faxes' icon and right click on the printer. Choose 'Properties' from the menu and click the 'Print test page' button.
Move the USB cable to another port on your computer if the test page still fails to print. If moving the cable does not work the USB cable will need to be replaced.
